Kiwanis Club of Kennewick Katch-up Korner

President Cyndi opened the meeting at Clover Island.  Russ Burtner greeted members and guests, Micki McKinnon gave the innovation and Rick McKinnon was facilitator. Laurie Tufford led us in song.

            Benton/Franklin Fair:  Vicki Bergum thanked members for signing up to work at the fair.   We still need additional help for ticket sellers, ticket takers and stampers.  Please contact Maureen Bell at 586.3867 until Sunday, August 20th and then email Vicki at  If you plan to ride the bus to work at the fair, contact either Maureen or Vicki to receive a fair ticket. 

            Finley Satellite Club:   A new member Dawn Senger was installed at their club meeting, August 9th. The Finley Satellite completed their 1st service project, repainting benches and bleachers at Finley High School.

            Amistad Jog-a-Thon:  Amy Coffman invited members to help support the Service Excellence Committee’s Amistad Jog-a-Thon by donating toward this event.  Amy had pledge forms available for club members who wished to donate.  Amistad does not have a parent group to help support extra-curricular activities such as field trips, Seattle Pacific Science Visits and other programs etc.  Profits will be used to provide supplemental programs for Amistad students.  Pledges are due by Sept. 19th.

            Summer Social:  The Strawn’s have opened their home for the summer social on Sept. 9th at noon.  Lunch served at 1:00 is catered by Karen Aanes.  The menu includes salmon, chicken, salad selections and dessert.  Pat Johnstone Jones sent around a sign-up sheet for members to sign up for the social.  If you write a check, please make it out to Kennewick Kiwanis.  Cost is $15.00 per person, pay Pat Johnstone Jones.

            Food Bank:  Stan Case thanked members who donated toward the food bank.  We collected $90.00 today.

            Fair Parade:  Karen Aanes is driving the HHH Kiwanis Club’s train for the Fair Parade on Saturday, August 19th.  If you wish to ride with her, meet her at 9:00 on Saturdayand wear your yellow vest or  Kennewick shirt.

Program:  Vicki Bergum introduced Chris Johnson, Benton PUD Integrated Resources and Extreme Weather System Planner. Mr. Johnson shared information on the Integrated Resource Plan that allows PUD to plan and meet the needs for power in our area. Bonneville Power Administration provides 80% of the power in our area.  He talked about how the Benton PUD buys power and sells power at peak times during the year.  He also shared information on the different types of power available in this area.
